從輸送介質性質選擇渣漿泵的型式
    (1) 常溫清水:一般的離心泵都可以使用。
    (2) 石油及石油制品:因石油、液化石油、石油制品都屬易燃、易爆物質,所以要求泵的密封性好、可靠性高,一般應選擇各類油泵、流程泵等,油泵的吸入、吐出口都垂直向上,較適合于煉油及石化工藝流程的需要。
    (3) 化工腐蝕性液體:對有機、無機、酸、堿類化工產品液體的輸送應選用化工耐腐蝕泵,化工耐腐蝕泵般選用各種耐腐蝕的材料制成。
    (4) 污水:污水中一般都含有一定的懸浮物或纖維物,容易堵塞泵的流道,尤其生活污水、糞便等應選用污水泵。有的污水還有一定的腐蝕性,泵的材料應采用耐腐蝕材料。
    (5) 含灰渣、渣漿、泥漿、砂粒的液體:此類液體對泵流道有極大的磨蝕性,所以泵的流道應采用耐磨蝕材料,或用耐磨蝕材料、橡膠等材料襯里的灰漿泵、渣漿泵、泥漿泵、砂泵等雜質泵。

四、從用途選擇泵的型式

    (2) 冷凝泵:是專門用來供電廠凝汽器熱水井的冷凝水之用,它要求泵的汽蝕性能較高,并常用汽蝕方法來調節泵的流量,所以專門設計了冷凝泵系列。
    (3)井泵:用于井中提水,泵的外形受到井徑的限制,所以專門設計了細長型的井泵。井泵有兩種:一種是將原動機置于地面的深井泵,另一種是將電機和泵連成一體置于井水中的潛水電泵。
    (4)食品泵:輸送液體食品,如酒類、牛奶、果汁等,需無毒不銹及易清洗等特點,所以應選用專門輸送食品之用的食品泵。
    (5)船用泵:因船上受空間的限制,所以專門設計了適合于船上安裝使用的船用泵,其大多數為立式結構。
